The Vision: To kindle the light of wisdom within, to walk the Noble Path, and to be of service to humanity
This vision has been the driving force behind our mission of promoting the study, practice and realisation of the teachings of the Buddha (Dhamma). Before Aloka was established in 1999, Venerable Mahinda, supported by Sister Sumitra has been conducting meditation retreats, dhamma talks and classes as well as community activities in hired venues or those kindly lent by generous donors. Many have benefited from his caring and compassionate way. He is truly a teacher with a compassionate heart.
The success of the retreats and the lack of a permanent place resulted in a donation drive to establish the Aloka Meditation Centre (Aloka). A property at Peats Ridge was subsequently purchased in 1994. The completion of construction of Aloka’s first stage in May 1999 marked a significant milestone in our efforts to establish a permanent meditation centre. We are indebted to our generous donors for making Aloka possible.
